This is a varied and impactful role, providing an opportunity to work with the most Senior Officers at one of the country’s leading fire and rescue services. The Role

Having previous experience of working as a Personal Assistant, together with a proactive approach in supporting senior leadership; logical thinking; dealing with sensitive information, excellent problem solving skills, aswell as effective written and verbal communication skills are essential for this varied role.

You will work well in a team, be proactive and take responsibility for all areas of administrative support, including attending and taking accurate minutes of meetings, arranging travel and hotel requirements, preparing conference itineraries and supporting events, you will also provide cover for other PAs as required.

You will have excellent time management and organisational skills, can work without direct supervision, in a changeable environment, and working flexibly in relation to the needs of the post is key.

You will develop good working relationships with your team, key staff and partners within external organisations, including the other emergency services, Government ministers, Members of Parliament, civic dignitaries, and elected members.

You will have excellent keyboard skills, knowledge and application of Microsoft 365 and overall good IT Skills.  Audio typing skills and a qualification in minute taking would be an advantage.

Job Purpose: to assist the Senior Occupational Health Nurse in providing a comprehensive Occupational Health service to both prospective and existing employees.  

Key Responsibilities: you will be based at our OH unit in Birkenshaw with the occasional day at one of our stations. You will carry out health surveillance and medicals, undertake pre-employment assessments/medical screening and assist with sickness absence management, both physical and mental health for operational fire fighters and support staff.  You will also provide health and wellbeing advice to all employees and undertake health promotion campaigns.  

Essential requirements:  

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a current Registered General Nurse qualification, who is also a member of the Nursing & Midwifery Council.  
  • You will have experience of performing medicals, sickness absence management and health screening within an Occupational Health team, or similar clinical setting. You will work with a wide range of people across the organisation so good interpersonal skills are a must, as is the need to abide by confidentiality.  
  • You will need to plan and prioritise your workload so good organisational skills are essential, as is the ability work on your own initiative.  
  • We are committed to good quality data, and you will need to maintain accurate records and be proficient in the use of IT applications.  

The post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service Check and the possession of current valid driving licence as the role requires some travel throughout West Yorkshire.

Description

Are you a passionate team player with great communication skills? Do you want to contribute towards the training of our new Firefighters? We’d love to hear from you! The Training Centre department is looking for the ideal candidate to work as part of the team to help staff in the preparation of exercises, drills and demonstrations.   

The successful candidate will have experience within a general maintenance environment and a strong team player, with the ability to use initiative when needed.  It will also be a requirement of the post to have the ability climb ladders, work at heights and to carry out other physically demanding tasks.  

It is a requirement of this post that you are qualified as a Telehandler operator and hold a LGV Driving Licence Category C. If you do not currently hold this qualification/ licence, you must be willing to obtain the qualification/ licence if appointed.

About the roles

  • Firefighter roles are available to work on our Shift Duty 0800-1900hrs (2-2-4) and Day Crewing shift pattern stations.

Those eligible to apply must: 

  • Be a Wholetime Firefighter in a UK Fire and Rescue Service.
  • Have been deemed competent in role.
  • Have no current/outstanding development action plans, performance improvement action.
  • No development plans or capability issues related to competency.
  • Be free of current formal disciplinary awards throughout the entire process.
  • Have a full UK driving licence.
  • Be willing to undertake training to support station specialisms.
  • Be available for all stages of the selection process as detailed in the recruitment timeline.
  • For Day Crewing roles, must, or be willing to reside within a 5 minute “turn in” area of the designated station. (Unless WYFRS accommodation is available).

Stage 1 - Application Form
