We were called at 11.02 to reports of a chemical incident on Quarry Court in Halifax.

This involves some chemicals which have mixed and produced a gas cloud.

As a precaution we are asking the public within 100 metres of the area to stay indoors with the doors and windows shut.

All local businesses in the area should also shut doors and windows.

We currently have a crew from Illingworth and our DIM Unit at the scene.

 

Call from Police to reports of a Chemical spillage of hydrochloric acid from a battery in the car park of a retail outlet.  The battery acid was diluted by crews after a cordon was placed around the spill following advice from specialist officers on scene. Specialist chemical monitoring equipment were also mobilised to scene.  Police and Ambulance also attended, with the clean up left in the hands of the police, the council and the responsible person for the battery. 

We were called at 19.05 to Paddock Lane in Halifax to reports of two people trapped underground.

We currently have four crews in attendance, plus the technical rescue unit and an aerial appliance.

We are also working with our partners in West Yorkshire Police, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, Yorkshire Water and The Environment Agency.

Update 20:00 - both casualties have been rescued using line rescue gear and have been passed to the care of our colleagues in Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

Update at 1018hrs - West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue have been working with partner agencies including North Yorkshire Fire, North Yorkshire Police, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, the Environment Agency and the Highways Agency. Incident now handed over to North Yorkshire Police and all of our resources have left the scene.
