What do you want to see from your fire and rescue service?

It’s your chance to have your say on what you wish to see from your fire and rescue service – with the launch of a public consultation today (Monday 13th January). West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) is asking residents for their views around the Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP).

The plan will look at things like how the Service spends budget, how risk is assessed in communities to deploy the correct resources and what commitments and focuses should be for the next three years.

The CRMP consultation will run for 10 weeks and close on 24th March 2025 – you can access it HERE.

A pre-consultation was held around some themes of the plan in Summer 2024. The final CRMP will be shaped by an evaluation of the pre-consultation and current public consultation. It will be published in May 2025.

Nick Smith, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Assistant Chief Fire Officer, said “Our main priority as a service is to make West Yorkshire safer, and given the diverse range of risks we face across the county this can be a challenge. Our people work tirelessly to protect our communities, not just by responding to emergencies but also through prevention and protection work and teaming up with partners and stakeholders to support community wellbeing.

“I’d really like to encourage everyone to have their say on our plan – we want to serve our communities as best we can, so we’d really appreciate your thoughts about the plan, and what you think our focus should be for the next 3 years.”

Chair of the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority Cllr Darren O’Donovan said “To continue to achieve our ambition of making West Yorkshire safer we need to know what the public think about challenges and risks in their area. For this reason, it’s important people have their say – this is your fire and rescue service, so we really hope you get involved in the consultation.

“With firefighter, fire station and fire engine cutbacks made by the previous government it’s important we continue to deliver value for money to the public – and by having your say you can influence where our priorities lie for the next three years.”
